A touchstone works because the standard is known, the test is public, and the stone does not flatter. Our method works the same way: five stages, each owned by a programme, each leaving a published trace.

A worked example
Suppose a VICHAR guest argues that coaching-class fees are the main barrier keeping community youth out of professional degrees. That is an idea — plausible, passionate, untested.
- कसौटी · Research. A baseline survey tests the claim. Perhaps it holds. Perhaps the data shows the real cliff comes earlier — say, the English-medium transition in classes 8–10.
- परख · Labs. A twelve-month bridging pilot with forty students, success criteria declared before it starts.
- समाधान · Programmes. If the pilot works, it is packaged — costs, playbook, training — and scaled. If it fails, the failure is published just as prominently, and the community is spared years of well-meant, wasted effort.
- परिवर्तन · Index. Degree completion is tracked for five years against the baseline. Change is claimed only when it is measured.
What this means in practice
- Methods, instruments and (where safe) data are published with every study.
- Pilots pre-register their success criteria — no moving the goalposts.
- Failures are published as prominently as successes.
- Community data is handled as sensitive data: informed consent, minimal collection, de-identification by default.
- Findings return to the community in accessible form — Hindi and English — not only in papers.
The promise, made falsifiable
“Prove the model” is itself a claim, so we put it on the stone. By year five, KASAUTI should be able to show: a published socioeconomic baseline of the community; at least three pilots run to completion with pre-registered criteria and published results — including any failures; at least one intervention scaled beyond its pilot site with independent evaluation; and an Index tracking education, skills, enterprise and participation against the baseline. If we cannot, we will say so publicly and explain why.
